The San Francisco 49ers Improving

By Dan Saganik

The San Francisco 49ers are a young team with lots of upside. Head coach Mike Singletary and his "I want winners" mentality seems to be working.

Coach Mike Singletary seems to have masterminded what is quickly becoming one of the better defensive units in pro football today. They have a lot of potential with some big player makers on both sides of the ball.

The NFC West is one of the worst divisions in football - well not the most competitive. It seems to be up for grabs this year.

The Seattle Seahawks aren't what the use to be, the St. Louis Rams could possibly be the worst team in the NFL and the Arizona Cardinals haven't been on the same page all season long. The 49ers might not be the front-runners in the NFC, but if they keep moving in the direction Coach Singletary is taking them they will be the favorites one day.

QB Shaun Hill won't dazzle you with eye popping statistics but he won't make many mistakes either. Hill is completing over 60% of his throws and has a good QB rating.

Coach Singletary is the perfect man for the job to make this happen, the 49ers are a young team and need a "general" like coach to keep them on the straight and narrow.

Coach Singletary was a great defensive player in his day for the Chicago Bears or "Monsters of the Midway". If he can instill the knowledge to his defense and create and terrifying defense that resembles the great Chicago Bears defenses of the'80s - the 49ers will be a contender for years.

Is this just one of those fluke starts that we see a few teams pull off each year, or are the San Francisco 49ers the real deal in 2009? - 31493
