Fantasy Football's Studs in 2009

By Melissa Donnelly

The 2009 NFL season has been an interesting one so far, especially in the world of fantasy football. Some players with high expectations have flopped so far, and others who no one expected much of have emerged into must start players every weekend.

It's interesting how it all works, but that's what we get when it comes to the wild world of fantasy football. Without further ado, here are a few players who've been very pleasant surprises so far through the first part of the season. These are just a few of the many great overachievers we've witnessed thus far.

Pierre Garcon has done some great things with the Colts in 2009. Had you asked me who Pierre Garcon was before the season started, I would've told you I had no idea. Now, he's a household name in the fantasy football world.

Having filled in for Anthony Gonzalez, Garcon has done a great job. He's been a top notch receiver with the Colts, and plays the perfect second fiddle to Reggie Wayne. He's a big part of the reason the Colts are so strong at this point in the year.

Moving on to running backs, we have to give some respect to Cedric Benson. This disgruntled Chicago Bears backup finally got a chance to get the starting role he knew he deserved, and he's been phenomenal.

Things are different when Carson Palmer's your QB though. Benson has been great through the first several weeks of the 2009 football season.

Matt Schaub. Who would have thought that Matt Schaub would be the second highest fantasy points scorer through the first 5 games of the season, only behind Peyton Manning?

Many people can't believe this, and with good reason. He was always thought of as good, but not Drew Brees good. - 31493
