The Favorites of the AFC East - The New England Patriots

By Peter Johnson

Tom Brady is back in New England, and football fans have generally expected the team to pick up right where it left off before he went down. Unfortunately for Patriots fans, this isn't the case.

On top of that, some veteran acquisitions like Joey Galloway and Fred Taylor, both great players with storied resumes, would bring the team some additional grit, making the Patriots all the more strong in 2009.

The start of the 09' Patriots season hasn't been ideal for them. While Tom Brady is coming off serious knee surgery, he and wide-receivers don't seem to be in sync just yet.

The Patriots won their first game at home against the Bills, and after a shaky start, essentially looked like the team of old. Well, Tom Brady did when he took control in the final two minutes. The rest of the team, not so much!

However, the Jets weren't prepared to accept this fate and made a bold statement against Brady during their week 2 matchup. They essentially made Tom Brady look like a rookie quarterback looking to find his way.

Was this the Jets' doing, or do the New England Patriots have good reason to worry about the health of Tom Brady? While this is unclear at the moment, it looks like it to many as if the Patriots and Tom Brady simply aren't the same team they used to be.

Brady was a comeback king during the team's first matchup against the Bills, working his typical magic at the end of the game to will the team to victory. Week two showed a completely different side of Brady that no one had seen before.

The Patriots defense is good but maybe not as great in seasons past. Brady is one of the best quarterbacks in the leagues history, and the chances are good he and the Patriots will rise to the top of the AFC once again. - 31493
