Dallas Cowboys Off to a Strong Start in 2009

By Alexander Regrand

Despite not winning a playoff game since Troy Aikman was quarterback, the Dallas Cowboys still manage to steal the spotlight in some way or another. The Dallas Cowboys moved into their coliseum for the start of the 09' season.

Tony Romo was appointed the next great quarterback prematurely perhaps - that doesn't excuse the rest of the team under performing over the years.

A plasma television above the field was bigger than any high definition unit in the history of the world. The picture looked crystal clear, just as clear as the plasma TV set I watched the game on. Too bad it may interfere with punks and kickoffs at times. Not sure who planned that?

The running game of the Cowboys is fantastic, they are averaging around 200 yards per game. If they can keep averaging 200 yards per game remains to be seen - a valuable running game is a quarterback's best friend.

The Cowboys defense will need to improve because even with QB Tony Romo, RB Marion Barber, RB Felix Jones, TE Jason Witten, WR Patrick Crayton, and WR Roy E. Williams - they may not be able to out score opponents every single Sunday.

Tony Romo has excellent targets, the problem is he throws it to other team much too often and needs better ball control. The Cowboys are potentially a 10 win team - which can keep them competing for the NFC East title. With the Giants being the favorites to win the NFC East title, the Cowboys may settle on a wild card birth and make some noise in the playoffs and get that "no playoff win since 1996" off their back.

The question the Cowboys need to answer is who are the locker room leaders. Romo will need to take the next step, manage the game and make plays when necessary and not be "Tony Turnover".

The Cowboys have a very good, capable team that can win many games if they play up to their potential. Cowboys need to end their playoff drought - going over 10 years without winning a playoff game for the Dallas Cowboys in unacceptable. - 31493
