Is This the Year for the Houston Texans?

By Stuart Ungar

The Houston Texans have come into the season with higher expectations than ever before. After closing out the 2008 season with an 8-8 record, they should have high expectations. It was a young team and should only improve.

With one of the game's best wide receivers, a very strong running back in Steve Slaton, a capable QB in Matt Schaub, and a solid defense, things look promising this year for the Texans from a talent point of view.

The Texans do have one of the best WR in the league, Andre Johnson. Any time you have a talented WR that essentially can do anything and change the game with one play, you have a good chance to win.

Whatever the case may be, the Texans looked revitalized during their week two game against the Titans in Tennessee. Matt Schaub looked as good as he's ever looked, with over 350 passing yards and a total of 4 TD passes.

Texans defense must not give up over 200 yards rushing every game and hold opponents scoring under 20 points per game. They're a young unit as well with Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Dunta Robinson and Amobi Okoye.

Looking at the week 2 result for the Houston Texans shows that the team was able to rebound from a tough game, playing very efficient football in Tennessee against the Titans. Everything clicked offensively for the Titans during their week 2 game. Matt Schaub had over 350 yards in the air at quarterback and reached the end zone four times. Andre Johnson was phenomenal at wide receiver, and backup WR Jacoby Jones did a nice job filling in for Kevin Walter.

The defense could have done better without a doubt, the team came away with a very difficult win against the Titans in Nashville. The Titans are now 0-2, opening the way for the Texans to attempt to rise to the top of the NFC South.

It's still too early to tell, but I do believe the Texans have a shot to make the playoff appearance all their fans have been hoping for! - 31493
